Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine spoke as panelist within the framework of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA). Topic of the discussion was “How to better cope with change: New approaches for food system resilience to pandemic and climatic shocks”.

On January 22, 2021, another meeting was held of the Organic Working Group, that has been established by the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture (MDETA) to address issues related to Ukrainian organic legislation.

On 17.12.2020, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine elected Mr Roman Leshchenko as the new Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

In October 2020, the autumn course for the production of biodynamic preparations took place on the “Schiwa Semlja Potutory GmbH” farm. Due to the COVID pandemic, only a small number of people could participate and the organizers therefore decided, with the support of the COA project, to shoot a practice-oriented video and make it accessible to a wider audience.

On December 3, 2020, a round table "Information on Requirements for Organic Control Bodies in Ukraine" was held in an online format. After the first round table during the BIOFACH trade fair in February, this was the second information event specifically aimed at organic control bodies (CBs), which was initiated by MDETA and carried out with the support of the project "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Agriculture" (COA).

On 2 December 2020, the first meeting of the Project Steering Group (PSG) in the second phase of the COA project took place via video conference.

According to estimates by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) - despite the ban on commercial cultivation - the proportion of genetically modified (GMO) soybeans in Ukraine is 50-65% of total production.

The development of organic farming is of great importance for the agricultural sector in Ukraine. Organic farming not only ensures better protection of the environment, but also provides the population with safe and high-quality food and at the same time contributes to rural development. The fifth international science conference, which took place in Kiev on November 4, 2020 as a hybrid-online-event, and which was organized by the Scientific and Methodological Center for Education and Higher Education (NMZ) together with the Organic Federation of Ukraine, focused on training issues and knowledge management in the field of organic farming and gave serveral international experts the opportunity to speak.

At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on October 13th, 2020, Ms. Vladyslava Magaletskaiya was appointed as the new head of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection of Ukraine.

On October 16, the COA team met with Deputy minister Serhii Glushchenko and his staff to discuss the further cooperation of the bilateral project with the Ministry of Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture (MDETA).
