The limited amount and high cost of chemical plant protection products today is an impulse for many agricultural producers to use mechanical methods of weed control not only in organic, but also in traditional agriculture. With this method, success in overcoming weeds depends on the ability to choose the right method, determine the intensity of its application and implement it at the right time.

Markus Mücke, a consultant in the field of organic farming at the Chamber of Agriculture in Germany, compiled the results of his own many years of research in the practical guide "Mechanical methods of weed control" for the German specialized publisher "Beckmann Verlag". And recently, the publisher gave permission to translate the manual into Ukrainian. The publication contains practical advice on the mechanical methods of weed control in the processing of various leguminous crops, sugar beet, corn, potatoes, cereal crops and rapeseed, and also provides a comparative description of tools and methods of tillage.

This practical guide will be useful for agricultural producers regardless of farming methods, because it provides the necessary basic agrotechnical knowledge and practical examples, which are a prerequisite for successful weed control by mechanical methods.

The translation of the manual from German was prepared by the project "German-Ukrainian cooperation in organic agriculture" for the Organic Knowledge Platform. The publication is available under the following link.
