Shortly after the start of the full Russian attack on Ukraine, the "Emergency Aid Ukraine Organic Farming" was launched as a joint campaign by the “German Future Foundation for Agriculture” and the "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Farming (COA)" project. With the help of the donations received, a large number of Ukrainian organic farms were supported in 2022 and 2023.

In 2024, new donations from the "Emergency Aid Ukraine Organic Farming" were used to help a total of around 130 small and medium-sized organic farms. This aid was again implemented as a joint campaign by the German “Future Foundation for Agriculture”, the "German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Farming" project, which is funded by the German Ministry of Agriculture, and the "Organic Federation of Ukraine".

In a first round in autumn 2024, 55 Ukrainian organic farms received support with which they could finance their organic certificate. Without this support, these companies would no longer have been able to cover the costs of obtaining the organic certificate due to the current economic situation in Ukraine. The organic certificate is issued by an organic control body that also inspects the organic farm.

In a second round in December 2024, around 75 Ukrainian organic farms received financial support, for example to repair war damage to their buildings, cover lost wages, care for refugees or purchase important equipment for processing organic food.

In 2024, a total of around 265,000 euros in donations were paid out to the 130 small and medium-sized Ukrainian organic farms as part of the two support campaigns. In total, around 950,000 euros in donations have been collected through the "Emergency Aid Ukraine Organic Farming" since 2022! This has helped a total of 235 Ukrainian organic farms over the last 3 years.

“We are very pleased that the donations have been able to help so many organic farms since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression. The feedback from organic farms shows that these funds are helping to continue to manage the farm organically and thus open up prospects for the future,” says Dr. Stefan Dreesmann, head of the “German-Ukrainian Cooperation in Organic Farming” project.
